Health Benefits of Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy has long been regarded by the mainstream medical community as an alternative, holistic treatment for a number of conditions. However, not much credibility has been placed in the health benefits of hypnotherapy. The good news is that the mainstream medical community has recently begun to recognize the many benefits that hypnotherapy has to offer. For example:
Recent scientific studies have shown that patients suffering from a number of gastrointestinal disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) have realized relief from their uncomfortable and sometimes painful symptoms. Most notably, a 2003 study that subjected IBS patients to 12 one hour hypnotherapy sessions in order to determine whether any of the patients were able to see an improvement in their conditions. 71% of the patients reported a reduction in the severity of their symptoms. What’s even more exciting is that 81% of those patients reported significant improvement in their overall well-being.
As if that weren’t enough, those suffering from various skin conditions have also reported an improvement in their conditions after receiving hypnotherapy treatment. Patients suffering from generalized dermatitis, eczema, warts, rosacea and other conditions were all able to report improvement after 6 weeks of hypnotherapy treatment.
Pain management has always been a problem area for the medical community. Most prescribe a number of potentially harmful medications as well as physical therapy and a number of other treatments. However, none of these treatment options have proven to have long term effective results. However, hypnotic treatments have been shown to have a positive effect on the treatment of both acute and chronic pain, especially when used as part of an integrated plan.
Hypnotherapy has long been used for the treatment of smoking, alcohol and other substance abuse conditions. And while many have been skeptical of the benefits that hypnotherapy provides, the proof is in the pudding. A 2007 study has shown that those who smoke are up to twice as likely to quit smoking with the use of hypnotherapy as part of a comprehensive stop smoking plan than those who try to go it alone. This data is also available for those who depend on alcohol or other substances.
And last, but certainly not least, hypnotherapy has been shown to have a positive effect on those who struggle with weight control. Adding hypnotherapy to other cognitive behavioral treatments can help provide those who are overweight with the tools they need to take the weight off and keep it off long term.
